What Size Mini-Split Do I Need?

Choosing the right size mini-split starts with a simple rule of thumb.

A common starting point is roughly 20 BTU of cooling capacity per square foot of space.

Adjust from there based on insulation quality, ceiling height, sun exposure, and your local climate. Poorly insulated rooms, high ceilings, very sunny rooms, or extreme climates may need more capacity, while well-insulated, shaded rooms may need less.

Before buying equipment for a whole home, we recommend getting a professional Manual J load calculation. It accounts for your home’s specific construction and conditions so the equipment is sized correctly.
